Learning about Boston Landmarks and the Printing Press with Mrs. Fritsche!

Each week, our classroom gets a visit from Mrs. Fritsche. She is a world traveler who knows a lot about the historical content that we study in fifth grade.  This week, she shared real photos of landmarks that we have been learning about in Boston such as the harbor where the Boston Massacre occurred and the Old North Church signaling Paul Revere's Midnight Ride.

Here, Mrs. Fritsche shows us how a printer's apprentice would learn how to sort all of the letters into the printer's tray.

Found Poetry

After creating a concept web on the Declaration of Independence, students used their web to help them search for words that would communicate about the Declaration of Independence.

Using old books, (Promise! They are discarded from the library) students looked for words to compose a simple phrase or lines to synthesize the document that declared the Colonists independence from England.
